DREAMING DREAMING

  • Annie Anxiety- Soul Possession

I first heard Little Annie’s voice on the Coil song “Things Happen”, I showed someone that song and the only comment they had on it was “Did she just say the n word?”, she was speaking Spanish, I think they were a very uninteresting person. I was entranced by her seductive, lazy drawl so I sought out her discography and I was definitely not disappointed by this record. The lyrics contain a lot of morbid imagery; cutting cocks, rearranging faces, mangled legs and electrocuted dead monkeys (this one is my favourite because I hate monkeys) and she can sound disgustingly evil singing them, on my favourite song “Viet Not Mine, El Salvador Yours” she says “girly” in such a taunting, unnerving way I believed my soul WAS in her possession. Instrumentation provided by band members from Family Fodder, Crass and Flux of Pink Indians, I love how repetitive and sparse everything sounds it makes me feel as if I am stuck in a diminutive, dingy, disgusting room banging my head against the walls trying to make it all stop but in a comforting way.

  • Dorothy- I Confess

Oh goodness!!!! This might be my favourite single of all time. Dorothy’s voice is so delicate on “I Confess”, as she shyly confesses all of her likes from the Dixie Cups to Subway Sect, I am scared if I listen to her too much she will shatter. The tune reminds me of early, girly, teen pop but as if someone is forcing her to make that, by shoving her into a confessional booth and threatening her to sing sweetly. The B-side “Softness” is a synthpoppy track with writing credits to thee Genesis P-Orridge (Dorothy contributed drums for a year to Psychic TV, she also played drums for Rema-Rema). I love how she whispers to me over the synths as if she’s trying to convince me of something, something she’s not entirely convinced of herself. I view this as a stockholm syndrome pop record, anyways I am entranced by her.

  • STICK SCULPTURE BY ME

I made this sculpture in a day, for some stupid thing in my first week at university. I enjoyed making it and using the wire and finding the sticks, I would love to create a bigger version of this that is a couple of feet tall and place in the forest. My main inspirations were childish folk art, naivety and outsider art. I dropped out of uni one week later, then my boyfriends friend said he could make this sculpture and I wanted to bash his head in with a rock. Sometimes I wish everyone was dead, so I could just sit around and binge on shit food, masturbate and make these sculptures to hang all around the forest. I’d eventually get mauled to death by rabid wild dogs as they take over the world.

RATING 2 RABID DOGS OUT OF 5 !!!

  • Flux of Pink Indians- The Fucking Cunts Treat Us Like Pricks

WOW!!! This album was, in my opinion, punks finest in sound collage and experimentation, the whole album contorts and twists around itself to create something so brutal and vile it makes Throbbing Gristle seem tame. Whilst listening to this album it feels as if the singer is spitting on you in vile contempt at your inadequacies of “fighting the system”. My highlight of the album was when the onslaught of noise (which borders on power electronics at times) gets broken up with a woman lecturing me on how I can’t see that they are all the same.
